The City of Calabasas, incorporated on April 5, 1991, is governed by a five-member city council and supervised by a city manager. Each March the council elects one of its members to serve as mayor and mayor pro tem. Several Commission Boards comprised of residents meet regularly at a public forum to oversee planning and development, public service, educational and environmental issues.
Calabasas receives its funding from local resources and government grants. Improvements are ongoing in public works maintenance programs, traffic and transportation, renovation projects, new parks and the purchase of open space within city limits and in the Santa Monica Mountains.
